I am a childrens’ picture book author and illustrator based in West Yorkshire.
With a diverse background in illustration, I completed a BA Hons in architecture before an MA in illustration where I was awarded the Chancellor’s Prize for my work on the picture book
The New Tunnel which explores narrative illustration as a communicator for abstract concepts through symbol, mark and colour
... which gave me quite the illustrative toolbox!
When I reach into my magic toolbox, I find coloured pencils, watercolour, gouache and occasionally a graphics tablet. With them, I create fantastical worlds of bold shapes and vibrant colours filled with weird and wonderful creatures and animals that somehow seem very familiar.
I believe stories should be accessible to all, so picture books, with their magical journey through text and image, are the perfect vessel to explore the complexities of life through a little playful whimsy.
